Beckford’s were delighted to be able to support in sponsorship a 50’s, 60’s and 70’s dance night at the Wayside Cheer Hotel in July.
Dave Sherbourne and Jane Duquemin entertained the audience with a wide variety of songs by Buddy Holly, Cliff Richards, Carpenters, Beach Boys, TRex and many more.
Costumes from the bygone years adorned the dance floor from Rock ‘n’ Roll, mods and hippies, so a nostalgic evening was enjoyed by all. A raffle was held during the evening and all monies raised were donated to the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Society. A grand total of £1,520 was given to the Society.
“Supporting this event enables our firm to give something back to those who are facing significant changes to their lives due to this progressive illness” said Beckfords managing director Jane Duquemin.
“It is a cause that is close to my heart. I sing once a month at the Willows Day Centre and find that music and song trigger the memories of those with dementia. It’s so rewarding to see them enjoying themselves and singing along with the music” said event organiser Dave Sherbourne.
Mike Nicholls from the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Society said “We are extremely grateful for all the support we receive from the local community. All proceeds from the event will go towards providing support for people living with dementia, their carers and families locally. Thank you to Dave and Jane for the hard work put into make it a tremendously successful and enjoyable evening”.
Last November another Charity event took place where proceeds amounting to £540 went to the Gateway Club. A great dance night was enjoyed by members of the Club and supporting friends.
