A further Coronavirus update

Further to our post of 18th March 2020, we are continuing to follow and revise our plans for funerals based on the advice by the States of Guernsey, Public Health and World Health Organisation (WHO), ensuring we are always providing the best - and safest - service possible for our bereaved families. Since our last post we have, in consultation with the local authorities, introduced further changes which include the following:

• The arrangement of funerals by telephone and email to enable both our families and our staff to maintain minimal physical contact. You will be aware that island funerals are now all private
• Funeral services being held, in the case of burials, at graveside or, in the case of cremations, held at our Chapel of Rest. Attendees in both cases will be limited to close family members up to a maximum of 10 persons. The service will be restricted in length and strict “Social Distancing” will be implemented. There will be additional provisions to safeguard families and our staff before and during the funeral, in order to maximise everyone’s well-being in accordance with Public Health guidelines.
• The option of a memorial service for the deceased to be held at a time in the future

These guidelines have been implemented by the States of Guernsey with the involvement of funeral directors and other key parties in Guernsey.
It is recognised, in these exceptional circumstances, that these changes may diminish the capacity for family members to grieve the loss of a loved one in the normal way. Rest assured that we, as a firm of funeral directors, along with the clergy, ministers and other celebrants will do all that we can to ensure that a funeral service will take place with dignity and respect for both the deceased and the bereaved.
